AP/Art IV Mid- Term Breadth Assignments

Art IV must choose one of the following themes for your Mid-Term Project and AP must choose two.  This piece/pieces must show your best work and will be done in the medium/s that you feel best suites your idea.  The piece/s must be completed for a critique during your mid-term block.  This is to be done outside of class and must be no smaller than 9” x 11”.

•    Self-Portrait done in analogous, monochromatic or complimentary colors and the colors are used to enhance the emotion of the piece

•    Piece that represents the theme “Circus”

•    Troubled times – a piece of artwork that shows your views on the current state of our economy and how it has affected the nation.

•    Drawing or painting inspired by cells or atomic structures (if you did this for Science, no you cannot use the same piece)

•    An illustration of a fairy tale character in a modern setting

•    Ink drawings done on printed pages of type.

•    A heroic self-portrait – you as your “ideal you”

•    Mixed media collage – a 2-D piece using paper and other embellishments combined with drawing or painting.

•    Create an artwork that shows the power and stereotypes found in children’s toys.

•    Optical Illusion – create a work of art that contains an optical illusion (see Mrs. O’Neill’s book for ideas)

•    Take the artwork of 2 different artists and merge them together to create a new unique work of art

Mid-term is Wed 1/28/10, during the 1st block.

Students will have 45 mins. to work during exam block and then have a critique of mid-terms, concentration portfolios to date, followed by time given to fill out self-evaluations.
